Our Board

Carla Van Den Nieuwenhof – Board Chair
Financial and organizational development specialist with experience in managing multimillion EURs of investments in affordable housing and related infrastructure projects. Carla has over 25 years of experience in high level finance and business development programs with social housing institutes in the Netherlands. Extensive experience of working with these organisations as consultant. Worked for the biggest social housing institutes with 15,000-40,000 units. She has international housing development experience gained while working with housing projects in countries like Kosovo, Nicaragua, Surinam

Richard Bahumwire – CEO and Co-founder
With over 20 years of experience in international development work. Richard has worked in more than 15 countries in Africa leading the development of affordable housing programs, urban infrastructure development, and integrated water and sanitation. He has expertise in establishing and executively managing companies, developing and managing partnerships, including Public Private Partnerships. He holds
MSc in Urban Development and Management; Key in Urban Housing and Development from Erasmus University Rotterdam – Netherlands

Andrew Maclean – Board member and Co-founder
A Chartered Engineer by profession, Andrew has over 30 years of international experience in civil engineering and development work. His specialist expertise is on rural and urban water and sanitation systems, social infrastructure such as schools, and more recently on low cost housing solutions. He worked as a senior infrastructure adviser for DFID (UK government) in Malawi, Mozambique and London where he oversaw a wide variety of organisations from multi-laterals such as PIDG to NGOs like WSUP. Currently Andrew is working as an independent consultant for affordable, climate smart housing in Africa and Asia and is a district councillor for the Green Party in the UK.

Jill Lovell – Board Member and Shareholder
International development and impact measurement specialist with over 20 years of experience in international development work. Jill has lived and worked in Mozambique for over 20years and thus has a wealth of knowledge and expertise of on-ground development work with cultural diversities in Mozambique. She was a mentor of many teachers and organisation managers while in Mozambique
Jill is currently a Lecturer and a Researcher at Queensland University of Science and Technology in Australia

Marie Odile Zanders – Co-founder & Board memebr
Currently working at EMPOWA as Head of property partnerships and development, Marie-Odile is an Environmental Engineer with MSc technology and Development Studies . She has over 25years of experience in affordable housing development working in business development, non-profit, financial services and international development institutions. She has done various international consultancies with World Bank, Reall UK, UN Habitat, Netherlands etc on improving affordable housing development, affordable housing businesses and general international development programs.
